Nyege Nyege Festival - Dark Star Stage

Partnering with his Kallida festival team and the British Council Reg went out to Uganda to design and build a stage for Nyege Nyege festival. They worked with and trained dozens of local young people during the construction and facilitated numerous projects across the site including floating and then sinking a fire sculpture into a bay in the Nile river.

Throughout the project they faced a number of unusual challenges including sourcing materials not common in this part of Uganda, non-standard lighting kit and even hitting the news across east Africa for a small political storm based around the (not entirely unfounded) fear of an ‘invasion’ of foreign homosexuals.

The Redundant Architects Recreation Association (R.A.R.A) is a workspace, workshop and creative collective based in Clapton, E59ND
